Beelitz Fire Department

Beelitz is situated in the state of Brandenburg, county Potsdam-Mittelmark, south west of Berlin. Through the territory reforms in 2001 Beelitz today is a city of 12000 inhabitants.

Beelitz is not only known for it’s asparagus but also for the district Beelitz-Heilstätten. The terrain was bought by the state insurance institution Berlin for a lung sanatorium in 1898. The still existing and technical historic important heat powerstation was the first district heating facility in germany that was operated in power heath coupling.

Most of Beelitz is rural structured. The large forests around are very fire dangerous. The Berlin motorway ring with the motorways A 9 and A 10 and the motorway crossing Potsdam are immediately situated near the Beelitz border and are also partially protected by the Fire Department.

The Fire Department in Beelitz village was founded in 1896 by 40 active and 13 non active members. Today the whole Fire Department inclusive the other districts has 400 members who responds to around 200 alarms annually. The most alarms has the district Beelitz with around 150 annually. Totally the Beelitz Fire Department has 10 stations with 18 vehicles and 4 portable pump trailers. A few vehicles from the districts of Beelitz and Fichtenwalde are shown here.

Nearly 20 years after the political change some of the district fire stations still have vehicles built in the former german democratic republic. But most of the fleet could be replaced in the last 15 years. Two district stations have only a portable pump trailer. For more informations visit the Beelitz website:
